The Cisco CCDE Practical Exam is an 8-hour, scenario-based design exam that will assess your ability to analyze design requirements, develop network designs, justify design decisions, and validate and optimize a network design. The exam will assess your ability to apply your specific body of knowledge into current business problems of technical network design. Product-specific knowledge including version of code, implementation and operations specific concepts is not tested on the CCDE exam.
Only candidates that have a passing score on the CCDE Written Exam may register for the CCDE Practical Exam. The topics that are covered in the CCDE Practical Exam are located within the exam topics. The exam scenarios may change in each instance that the exam is delivered; however, the topics will remain the same.
The delivery of the CCDE Practical Exam takes place on specific dates, and at all specially equipped Pearson Professional Centers (PPCs) worldwide. The PPCs protect the integrity of the exam and its participants. These test centers incorporate the latest technologies and best practices for security and extended period testing.
The CCDE Practical Exam cost does not include travel and lodging expenses. Costs may vary due to exchange rates and local taxes (VAT, GST). You are responsible for any fees that your financial institution charges to complete the payment transaction. Price is not confirmed and is subject to change until full payment is made. The Pearson Professional Centers Video Tour offers a look at one of the actual testing environments that is used to deliver the CCDE practical exam. No outside reference materials are permitted in the exam room. You must report any suspected equipment issues to the proctor during the exam because adjustments cannot be made once the exam is over.
The CCDE practical exam is an eight-hour exam. The exam consists of four sections, and each section contains 25 to 35 questions focuses on a different scenario. The total time allotted for the exam can be up to nine hours when the lunch break is included. The overall format is as follows:
Candidates are not permitted to return to a previous question once they have moved to the next question. Scenario documentation will be presented at the beginning of each section. Additional scenario documentation will appear throughout each section. Candidates are notified when new documents appear for their reference.
The CCDE Practical Exam does not require configuration or manipulation of networking devices. The exam includes reference materials for the design scenarios, which are displayed on a standard PC. All reference materials, information sources, and explanations of design scenarios are included in the CCDE Practical Exam.
A lunch break can only be taken after the candidate completes section 2. If a candidate returns early from lunch, this will not increase the four-hour block after lunch. If a candidate returns late from lunch, the ending time for the exam will not extend past the PPC closing time. In this case, the candidate will not have a full four hours after lunch to complete the exam. Lunch will not be provided and is the responsibility of the candidate.
Each scenario-based question on the CCDE Practical Exam has specific criteria to be met, and points are awarded accordingly based on predefined scoring rules. Some questions are worth a single point, and others are worth multiple points. Partial credit is allotted for certain items.
After Cisco has evaluated and scored the final exam, the testing vendor will send a hard copy score report to candidates via standard U.S. Mail. (For prompt delivery, please verify that the testing vendor has your current mailing address. Cisco is unable to send duplicate exam score reports.) Results are typically available 10-12 weeks after the completion of the exam. In addition, exam results are posted in the Cisco Career Certifications Tracking System once the hard copy score report has been mailed. Results are Pass/Fail, and failing score reports indicate major topic areas where additional study and preparation may be useful.
